Our Story
Why West Hollywood lifeguards are organizing with AFSCME
West Hollywood Aquatic Center - Where we work to keep our community safe
Who We Are
We are lifeguards at the West Hollywood Aquatic Center. For years, we've been dedicated to keeping our community safe, teaching children to swim, and providing exceptional service to West Hollywood residents.
But we're temporary employees with no job security, no voice in our working conditions, and no protection from arbitrary decisions. That stops now.
Why We're Organizing
We're organizing with AFSCME because we believe:
- Every worker deserves respect and dignity
- We should have a say in decisions that affect our jobs
- Job security shouldn't be a privilege—it should be a right
- Our working conditions directly impact the safety of our community
- Workers deserve protection from management retaliation
What We're Fighting For
- Job security and clear pathways to permanent employment
- Fair wages that reflect our training and experience
- Better benefits and working conditions
- A voice in scheduling and policy decisions
- Protection from arbitrary discipline or termination
- Safe working conditions and proper equipment
- An end to management retaliation and petty disputes affecting our safety
